Well Folks, Mission Medicine 2011 has come and gone and what an incredible event it turned out to be! I was amazed at the number of people who turned out to help protect our Chapel Hill seniors as well as our lakes and streams. Last year, we collected 74lbs of medications. However, most of what we collected was liquid medications with only 15lbs of pills. In most cases, the pills are the things that slip through the sewage treatment plants and end up wreaking havoc in our water supply. This year we collected 68lbs of pills! Over a hundred cars drove in, dropped off, and drove away. Our grand total was 113lbs of medication collected. We were delighted that so many Chapel Hill-ians took time out oftheir busy schedules to clean out their medicine cabinets and in turn make our community a safer, cleaner place. Many thanks to Officers Mark, Charlie, Robin and Tenisha from the Chapel Hill Police Department. Many thanks to Sammy Culberson, Owner/Operator of Chik-Fil-A at University Mall, for donating sandwiches to all who participated. Many thanks to Greg Feller of Owasa for helping to get the word spread throughout the community. Many thanks to John Stillman, Walter Storholt and Mollie Buckley from WCHL for the work they did to flood the airwaves with coverage of our event. We love Chapel Hill and feel blessed to continue to be given the opportunity to serve. See you again next May!
